Like many others, we live within hearing distance of the Homer Police Station and the Homer Volunteer Fire Department Headquarters. This summer we have  been amazed at how many times we have heard the sirens of emergency vehicles leaving these facilities. The sirens can be expected to sound at all times of  the day.  

When we hear that sound it always makes us pause and consider that somebody has a problem. It certainly is an alarming sound, but at the same time, it also is comforting to know that there are professionals, as well as volunteers, in this community willing to help those in need. We are grateful that our beautiful cosmic hamlet has the ability to provide these services for us and offer our thanks to those who serve as police, EMTs and fire department personnel.
