Sixth-grader Gabe LeBlanc will be McNeil Canyon Elementary School’s representative in the Alaska State Spelling Bee in Anchorage March 5. Twenty-five spellers in grades 4-6 participated in McNeil’s Feb. 13 spelling bee. Gabe’s winning word was “visual.” The school’s alternate is fifth-grader Braden Huffman.
Andy Nelson, a fifth-grader, will represent Chapman School at the state bee. Twenty students in grades 3-8 participated in Chapman’s Jan. 29 school event. After 15 rounds, Andy won on the word “fluctuation.” Chapman’s alternate is fifth-grader Kimberly Abbott.
