Anchor Point’s annual Snow Rondi went to the dogs last weekend, in the best way. The Anchor Point Senior Center hosted the successful return of the Snow Rondi dog show on Sunday, March 5, judged by John Down, Dave Webb, and newly elected borough Mayor Peter Micciche.
Senior center staff member Debbie Poinxdexter served as the emcee for the event, with Debbie Carpenter as the animal “concierge” of the day.
Seventeen dogs were shown at the event. Owners paraded their dog along a carpet runway set up in front of the judges’ table while Poindexter introduced both dog and owner by name and shared with the audience the dog’s special interests, hobbies, and talents. Several dogs also performed tricks for the judges, including dancing, shaking paws and touching a target. Judges’ choice first-place winner, Reba, a toy poodle owned by Char Moore, also demonstrated her ability to use a talk button and fetch Moore’s phone for her.
Prizes were given out for six award categories and for the top three judges’ choice winners.
A door prize drawing for gift certificates and dog beds of various sizes was held at the end of the show. All proceeds from ticket purchases and donations made during the dog show went to the Homer animal shelter.
