Simon Gucer has lived in Homer almost 18 years.
He loves fishing, boats and French literature. Currently, Simon likes the authors Albert Camus and John Paul Sartre, and is reading “The Ambiguity of Ethics” by Simone de Beauvoir.
“It’s kind of just a breakdown of Western societal standards, and what we perceive as morality,” he said.
After high school, Simon is going to attend University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau and plans to get a bachelor’s degree in fisheries. He could see himself owning his own boat and continuing his “father’s legacy,” as his dad has worked in the fishing industry for a long time.
Throughout the years, Simon has pursued interests including the drums, piano and basketball. His favorite high school memories are from playing basketball with his friends. He still plays the piano and has been since the age of 5.
