Rotary Club funds meals for Ukraine

On Aug. 15, the Homer-Kachemak Bay Rotary Club presented a check in the amount of $5,000 to Lucas Wilcox, Homer resident and founder of the nonprofit organization Altruist Relief Kitchen.

The funds donated by the Rotary Club will go toward ARK’s continued work in Ukraine, allowing ARK to feed another 12,500 meals to women and children refugees of the Ukraine conflict as well as providing jobs for the Ukrainian staff, according to an August press release from former Rotary Club president Kim Zook.

The club was awarded a Rotary District Grant in July that increased the $3,000 initially raised for ARK to the $5,000 that was donated to the project on Aug. 15, Zook told Homer News last Thursday.

“We really believe in what Lucas is doing,” Zook said. “He’s a Homer-bred and raised kid who’s really come into his own with the ARK project. He really believes in it, so it’s hard not to be supportive of what he’s doing.”
