Homer Relay for Life, the annual American Cancer Society fundraiser, is 10 a.m.-midnight Saturday at the Homer Middle School track. Teams or individuals will walk the track in a relay to raise money. Relay for Life starts with opening ceremonies at 10 a.m., followed by the survivors walk and the survivors and caregivers walk. Various walk events will be held throughout the day, including a cake walk and children’s events. There also is a silent auction of art, crafts and other items. South Peninsula Hospital will provide a comfort and information station. Massage chairs with masseuses also will be available.
Relay for Life ends with the luminaria lantern lighting at 11 p.m. For a donation, people can purchase luminarias in honor of loved ones who have died from cancer.
Event leader Keyla McKinley said funds raised help support American Cancer Society programs in Alaska, including patient support.
“There’s an abundance of resources they help with,” McKinley said.
