People who are homeless and people who are at risk of being homeless can pick up free essential supplies and connect with local resource agencies through Project Homeless Connect Homer from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the Homer United Methodist Church and the Anchor Point Food Pantry.
The event will be a drive- or walk-through experience, but some resources will be available inside. COVID-19 screening will be administered before entrance is allowed and masks are required, which are available upon request.
People will be able to pick up supplies such as backpacks, food boxes, snack bags, personal hygiene kits, comfort care packs, feminine hygiene products, diapers and baby wipes, condoms, pet food, sleeping bags, blankets, tents, utensils, overdose response kits, medication disposal bags, winter gear, laundry vouchers and home COVID-19 tests, among other things.
A chance to connect with housing agencies, food resources, employment opportunities and health care information will be available during the event.
COVID-19 and flu vaccinations will also be offered.
For those in Homer without transportation to the event, Kostas Taxi will offer free rides to the Homer United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To order a pickup, call
Homeless Connect is a free service provided by several local organizations, including Haven House, South Peninsula Hospital, SVT Health & Wellness, South Peninsula Behavioral Health, Kachemak Bay Family Planning, Homer United Methodist Church, the Homer Food Pantry, NTC Health Clinic and Anchor Point Food Pantry.
The Homer United Methodist Church is located at 770 East End Road in Homer, and the Anchor Point Food Pantry next to the Anchor River Inn Store in Anchor Point.
