School-grown and nurtured garden potatoes were the fare of the week at Fireweed Academy last Thursday. Topped with garden veggies and all the fixin’s, the K-2 students dove into their “Potato Sundaes” with gusto. Our second year garden, including opportunities like these “Potato Sundaes,” our now famous Fireweed “Walking Salad,” sunflower poetry, seed estimating and counting, dill pickle making, kale chips and snacking on colorful roots during recess, all brought joy and countless hours of academic and nutritional enrichment to our school.
It is with great gratitude that I thank the People’s Garden Grant folks for their generous support, goodwill, thoughtful guidance and good cheer over the past two years. It has been an experience that goes to the very heart of experiential learning and Fireweed students are thankful.
