The Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony last Thursday, Jan. 25 for the newest business to join the Anchor Point community.
Chugach Animal Clinic is a family-owned veterinary practice located on the Old Sterling Highway. They began taking business on Jan. 8, with Thursday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony marking their official date of opening.
Veterinarian Claudio Lagoa, along with his wife, Aisha, and daughter Isabella, have lived in Alaska off and on since 2013.
“We went back to the Lower 48 a couple of times, but always came back to Alaska,” Lagoa said. “Something always pulls us back here — Alaska completely conquered our hearts.”
Lagoa has more than 20 years of veterinary experience, 10 of which he has spent doing predominantly emergency animal care.
The clinic currently hosts an exam room, a full surgical suite, digital x-ray equipment and a lab/pharmacy. Services offered include vaccinations, wellness exams, dentistry, emergency and urgent care, canine reproduction, diagnostics including laboratory, x-rays and ultrasound, and soft tissue and bone fracture repair surgery.
“We hope that people on the Kenai Peninsula won’t need to always go to Kenai or Soldotna, or Anchorage,” Lagoa said.
APCOC board member Amanda Jerde, in an email to Homer News, called Chugach Animal Clinic a “much-needed and invaluable service within our community.”
“Alaska is an excellent place to live, we’ve never felt more welcome,” Lagoa said. “It was great to have Anchor Point — about 20 people from the chamber, neighbors, other local businesses — come to the opening. The reception felt warm, we’re glad to be here.”
