Anchor Point celebrated the grand opening of its new fitness center on Friday, Nov. 11.
Owner Heidi Cox, who also owns a private training studio in Homer’s Kachemak Center, cut the ribbon on the new facility during a ceremony sponsored by the Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce.
APCOC Board of Directors President Dawson Slaughter applauded the gym as Anchor Point’s newest business and the chamber’s newest member, saying that the fitness center is “something that Anchor Point needs.”
“I just want to say thank you for being here, because this is really making my dream come true,” Cox said to the community members gathered at Friday’s celebration.
Located in the former Anchor River Inn gym building, recently fully renovated and updated, the Anchor Point Gym offers a full free-weight selection, a full cardio selection, exercise machines including treadmills, ellipticals and a rowing machine, yoga equipment, among other things. Life Fitness and Muscle Strength are the major brands of equipment provided by the gym, according to Cox.
“My plan is to definitely bring in more equipment based off the members’ needs. The member feedback will dictate how that grows,” Cox told Homer News.
The gym is open to registered members 24 hours a day. Users are provided with an individual door passcode upon membership purchase, and the facility has 24-hour security cameras both inside and outside the building for patrons’ safety.

Cox expressed gratitude for everyone who worked with her to make the Anchor Point Gym a reality.
“I want to thank my husband, Dan, for being a really strong support through this process. My kids, Brenna and Hayden, for helping me the whole way,” she said. “And then a special thank you to Dan and Erin Caryk — they’re the owners of Great Hall Iron Gym on Kachemak Drive — because without their guidance, this project would have been much more difficult for me. They really contributed a lot to the Anchor Point Gym.”
