Homer’s small-town Fourth of July parade lasted about 30 minutes and stretched the length of Pioneer Avenue from Heath Street to the Homer Bypass. On the theme of “The First 50 Years: Celebrating Homer High School Graduates from 1940-1990,” several groups featured alums showing their Mariner pride and wearing letter jackets.
The parade included classic cars, horses, sled dogs pulling a cart, loud motorcycles, kids — and Mayor Ken Castner – on bikes, floats, the Bouyman, and even a band of travelers from St. Mary’s, Kansas, a group from St. Mary’s Academy touring the state who asked to march.
