In awarding the quarterly Mariners on the Move awards, Homer High School had to get a little creative, seeing as students haven’t actually been in the building in weeks.

The students honored with the award are usually treated to a reception with their families and the teachers who nominate them. This quarter, they were celebrated via a Zoom video conference.

Each Homer High School faculty member selects one outstanding student per school year, though the award is quarterly. The nominations are based on scholarship and character.

“Honorees, their families and the nominating teachers attended a April 23 celebration via Zoom,” wrote Paul Story, school counselor.

Fourth quarter award winners were:

• Damon Weisser – nominated by Mr. Perk

• Jennifer Tucker – nominated by Mrs. Akers

• Leif Restad – nominated by Mr. Mike Steen

• Shane Martin – nominated by Mr. Love

• Lance Parkinson – nominated by Mrs. Winter Allen

• Liam James – nominated by Mr. Schneider

• Mariah McGuire – nominated by Mr. Campbell
