A Fairbanks man wanted in connection to an Amber Alert was arrested last Thursday morning near Kasilof after a highway pursuit by Alaska State Troopers.
Steven Narron, 51, was apprehended by troopers and a 15-year-old girl, first reported missing from Fairbanks on Aug. 14, was found safe, according to a trooper dispatch issued Thursday.
The Alaska State Troopers Fairbanks Criminal Suppression Unit was assigned Tuesday to assist state Department of Corrections probation officers with locating Narron on a warrant for violating felony probation. The troopers learned that he was “a non-compliant sex offender,” and linked him to the active missing juvenile report with Fairbanks Police.
According to the dispatch, troopers from around the state began working to corroborate their suspicion that Narron was with the missing girl. They were able to determine that Narron was in Anchorage, and that the 15-year-old was with him.
The Alaska Amber Alert System was activated at 5:24 p.m. on Wednesday after Anchorage Police found Narron’s vehicle abandoned at a local park, saying they now believed the 15-year-old “was in imminent threat of serious injury or death.”
At 4:30 a.m. Thursday, troopers in Soldotna responded to a call placed using the Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately system, reporting a dangerous driver on Kalifornsky Beach Road, unassociated with the active Amber Alert. The white Ford SUV refused to pull over, and was pursued by the troopers until a spike strip deployed near Kasilof on the Sterling Highway stopped the vehicle.
Troopers recognized the driver as Narron from the Amber Alert, and found the 15-year-old safe inside the vehicle.
At 8 a.m. Thursday, the Amber Alert was canceled.
Narron has been arrested, charged and remanded to Wildwood Correctional Center. The arrest was made for the active felony probation violation warrant, eluding, misconduct involving a controlled substance in the first degree, and driving under the influence. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident with the 15-year-old is ongoing, with the dispatch saying “additional charges will likely be filed.”
