Homer rotary supports Anchor Point Food Pantry

The funds will be dedicated to the pantry’s children’s program

The Rotary Club of Homer-Kachemak Bay presented a check for $4,000 to the Anchor Point Food Pantry on Thursday, Oct. 17.

According to an Oct. 21 press release, the donation came from a combination of funds raised locally by the Rotary Club and a matching grant from Rotary District 5010, which covers the entire state of Alaska.

The donated funds will provide weekend food bags to school-age children, according to APFP President Missy Martin.

“The food that we are able to purchase with this generous grant will help needful children concentrate a whole lot better on their schoolwork come Mondays throughout the winter,” she wrote to Homer News on Monday. “When they come back to school hungry, they can’t think as well. Our volunteers are happy to help with this.”

The pantry welcomes any gifts and donations that will help fill the student food bags, including healthy foods and snacks, “fun surprises” and Ziploc bags of various sizes. Any donated perishables must be dropped off at the pantry by Thursday mornings.

“We welcome volunteers that want to help form smiles on these children’s faces,” Martin wrote.
