Gregory Arthur Bottjen was arrested last month for strangling a man at Homer Harbor

A Homer resident who was arrested in August for allegedly attacking and strangling a man at Homer Harbor was indicted Sept. 11 by a grand jury.

Gregory Arthur Bottjen, 39, is charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault and three counts of third-degree assault.

According to an affidavit from a Homer Police Department officer, HPD responded to a fight in progress at Homer Harbor on Aug. 29, where they found Bottjen strangling another man.

HPD physically separated them when Bottjen refused to comply with a command to stop, according to the affidavit.

Bottjen declined to answer any questions from HPD officers at the scene, according to the affidavit.

A preliminary breath test showed he had a blood alcohol level of 0.156, according to the affidavit.

Bottjen was arraigned on Aug. 30. His next hearing is currently scheduled for Oct. 14. A trial is currently scheduled in November.

Superior Court Judge Bride Seifert from the Third Judicial District in Homer is listed as the case judge. Bottjen is represented by John Cashion from Cashion, Gilmore & Lindemuth in Anchorage.
