As part of work toward a merit badge in citizenship, the Girl Scouts acted out roles as city manager, mayor, council members, and clerk during a mock council meeting on Nov. 2
Other Girl Scouts also played the roles of people giving public testimony at then event held in Homer City Hall.
Attending the session were women who work in city government. The Girl Scouts invited City Clerk Melissa Jacobsen, Homer City Council member Caroline Venuti, council member Rachel Lord, council member Shelly Erickson and council member Donna Aderhold. Jacobsen wrote a script for holding a council meeting and she, City Manager Katie Koester and the council members spoke to the Girl Scouts about their roles in government.
“It’s great to have such strong role models in the council and city government,” said troop leader Beth Trowbridge.
