Court proceedings in the state’s case against Kirby Calderwood, who was indicted for the murder of Anesha “Duffy” Murnane, have been delayed again.
Calderwood, 34, was charged in September 2022 with the abduction and murder of Murnane, a Homer woman who went missing in October 2019. He is currently being held at the Wildwood Pretrial Facility in Kenai, where he called in to the omnibus, or pretrial, hearing that was held on Monday, June 10 prior to the hearing’s delay.
In requesting the delay, the law office of Calderwood’s attorney — who himself did not attend or call into the hearing — said they were still working to “identify and retain” an unspecified “expert.”
Proceedings against Calderwood have been delayed consistently since his first omnibus hearing on Jan. 9, 2023, according to state court information. He’s attended 11 omnibus hearings, with a 12th now set for Aug. 26. If the case were to go forward at that hearing, his trial would begin on Sept. 30.
