‘Get To Know Homer’ training set for May 20

The Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center will host the annual “Get to Know Homer” summer tourist season kick-off training on Wednesday, May 20, at the chamber.

This free program is geared to frontline staff to get acquainted with Homer and the surrounding area, but everyone interested in learning more about what there is to do in Homer is invited. The presentation will touch on the top commonly asked questions from visitors answers provided by the chamber’s seasoned volunteers at the visitor information center.

This one-hour training will be presented every hour, on the hour, starting at 9 a.m. with the last session beginning at 3 p.m. This is a new format based on feedback that shorter and more frequent sessions would be desirable to enable more staff participation from area businesses, according to a chamber press release.

The training program is designed for business owners, front desk staff, waitstaff, transportation providers — anybody who interacts with the public — and for residents who have relatives visiting this summer and want to know what to do with them.

Topics include  fishing, attractions, festivals, free resource guides, local services and an areawide orientation.

The training is free and open to the public.  For more information, contact the Homer Chamber of Commerce at 235-7740.
