FAIRBANKS — A cooperative market in Fairbanks has received national recognition.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the Co-Op Market Grocery and Deli was named the co-op startup of the year in 2013.
General manager Mary Christensen accepted the award at the Consumer Cooperative Management Association conference in Madison, Wis.
The Fairbanks location opened last year in the former Foodland building.
It’s experienced steady growth since opening and exceeded sales projections. The store now has 2,680 members. Sales this year are expected to reach nearly $3 million.
