East End Road was closed briefly at noon on Saturday as Alaska State Troopers, with assistance from Homer Police Department and Alaska State Parks Rangers, tried to get a Homer man to leave a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier that day.
According to an Alaska State Troopers Dec. 31 dispatch, Homer resident William Collins, 31, was stopped near Mile 4 of East End Road while driving a truck reported stolen from an East End Road address. Collins refused to get out of the vehicle for approximately 20 minutes, troopers reported.
Collins, who was on conditions of release for first-degree vehicle theft and had been released the previous day, was driving the truck without permission and was in possession of stolen property, troopers said.
He was arrested and remanded to Homer Jail, where was held pending arraignment on charges of first-degree vehicle theft, fourth-degree theft and violating the conditions of release.
