DOT announces 2025 Kenai Peninsula construction projects

With 20 projects in total, some represent continued construction efforts while others are new this year.

The Alaska Department of Transportation has released the list of construction projects to be conducted on the Kenai Peninsula in 2025. With 20 projects in total, some represent continued construction efforts while others are new this year.

Pertinent to the central and southern Kenai Peninsula, improvement work for the Homer Airport will continue. According to the City of Homer website, the last runway closure occurred the night of Dec. 19. The runway will remain open until April, when contractors are scheduled to return to complete work on the West Road and Taxiway G.

New projects scheduled to begin this year include pavement preservation on Anchor Point Road from milepost 0-1.3; pavement preservation on Kachemak Drive, MP 0-3.5; the Kenai Peninsula Bridge Deck rehabilitations near Cooper Landing; Kenai River Flats pedestrian improvement and Kenai Bridge Access Road pathway; pavement preservation on the Kenai Spur Highway, MP 29-38; phase two of the Kenai Spur Highway rehabilitation from Sports Lake Road to Swires Road; installation of a flashing beacon at the intersection of Sterling Highway and Kalifornsky Beach Road; phase one of reconstruction for Sterling Highway MP 157-169; pavement preservation on the Sterling Highway, MP 169-175; and progressive design build for the Sterling Safety Corridor Improvements, MP 82.5-94.

Several of these projects will be advertised for bids later in the season and may only see preliminary construction in 2025. These include the Kachemak Drive pavement preservation, Kenai Spur Highway pavement preservation, the flashing beacon installation at the intersection of the Sterling Highway and Kalifornsky Beach Road, and Sterling Highway MP 157-169 reconstruction.
