The Diamond Creek Trail is closed until further notice, Kachemak Bay State Park Trails Specialist Eric Clarke announced on Monday.
Recent rains, starting Friday, Oct. 11, have resulted in a mudslide “that started on the upper leg of the trail all the way across Diamond Creek,” making the trail impassable.
The Diamond Creek Trail is a 2-mile trail with access from the Sterling Highway, across from Diamond Ridge Road, that descends to the beach. The trail is described on the City of Homer website as its upper half being “mostly switchbacks” and the lower half being “fairly steep” and narrow with abrupt edges.
