Crashes in Ninilchik, Voznesenka injure three

Two separate car crashes, one involving a pedestrian and the other a four-wheeler, sent three people to the hospital over the weekend.

One man in Ninilchik was taken to Central Peninsula Hospital after being hit by a truck, and two boys in Voznesenka were taken to South Peninsula Hospital with serious injuries after being thrown from a four-wheeler that hit a sport-utility vehicle.

None of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

According to Alaska State Trooper press releases, at about 2:20 p.m. Saturday, a driver in a 1991 Chevrolet pickup truck heading north hit a man walking north on the shoulder of the Sterling Highway. Troopers and Ninilchik Emergency Services responded and took the man to the Soldotna hospital.

On Sunday at about 1:15 p.m., two boys riding a four-wheeler on Basargin Road near Voznesenka hit a Ford Escape SUV when the four-wheeler driver tried to stop and lost control, going into the other lane.

Two boys were thrown from the four-wheeler. The driver wore a helmet, but the passenger did not appear to have one, said Megan Peters, a trooper spokesperson. Kachemak Emergency Services took the boys by ambulance to South Peninsula Hospital.

No one in the pickup or SUV suffered injuries. Investigations into the two crashes are ongoing and no charges or citations have been filed. Troopers did not release the names of the victims or drivers.
