Enstar Natural Gas has selected Utility Technologies Inc. to install the natural gas distribution mains and service lines within the Natural Gas Homer Special Assessment District, according to John Sims, Enstar’s manager of corporate communications and customer service.

“They have installed hundreds of miles of utilities throughout Alaska,” said Sims, of the company, who has offices in Anchorage, Wasilla and Washington state. “They are in the process of planning, training and mobilizing for the Homer project.”

During the next few weeks, Geovera will do preliminary surveying within the Homer special assessment district, with UTI crews following with brush work.

“Actual pipe lying is expected to start in mid-May,” said Sims.

Installation continues by Chumley’s General Contracting of the trunk line, eight-inch pipe that will bring natural gas from Anchor Point to Homer. Pipe-laying and boring crews are working south of the Old Sterling Highway-Sterling Highway intersection.

“Motorists are asked to slow down near workers and watch for equipment entering or leaving the road,” said Sims.

Short traffic delays can be expected on the Anchor Point end of the Old Sterling Highway, where Alaska HydroAx crews are removing brush. Motorists are asked to watch for brush-clearing debris.

Preliminary survey work for the Kachemak City natural gas distribution system will be done by Geovera, with Clark Management installing the gas mains and service lines.
“Clark Management expects to begin brushing this week and this will continue up to May 1,” said Sims. “Actual pipe laying is expected to start in early to mid-May.
