The Citizens’ Climate Lobby visits Homer with two events as part of its Alaska Big Dividend Tour. A grassroots, nonpartisan, nonpolitical advocacy organization with more than 360 chapters, CCL promotes market-based solutions to manage climate, ocean acidification and energy risk, and preserve Alaska’s economy and way of life. It advocates for a carbon fee that returns all revenue to households (like the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend) without growing government. It also supports using the power of markets to find the most cost-effective way to reduce emissions.

At 6 p.m. Tuesday at Land’s End Resort Harbor Room, fisherman George Donart, CCL Alaska state coordinator, and Tamara Staton, CCL Pacific Northwest regional coordinator, speak at the meeting of the Rotary Club of Homer Downtown. They discuss ocean acidification, the earth’s changing climate and impact on Alaskans, and how to move past partisanship to begin addressing these challenges.

Then at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center, “stand-up economist” Yoram Bauman does a comedy routine, “What’s So Funny About Climate Change?”

Using humor, he discusses carbon tax solutions to climate change. Bauman’s talk is sponsored locally by Cook Inletkeeper and the Kachemak Bay Conservation Society.
