I have never been a fan of the 1 percent for art that accompanies new city or state construction. The fact that the new harbormaster’s building includes close to $19,000 for art is just astounding. That’s a lot of money that could be used for say improving fish cleaning stations now that the Fishing Hole is finally viable.
The fact that an artist from California got more than half that money doesn’t sit well with me either. Isn’t Homer known as an artsy community? No one here was qualified?
