The 30th annual Anchor Point King Salmon Derby, sponsored by the Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Saturday, April 26.
This year’s derby is held in honor of Erica Walli, who was a longtime Anchor Point resident, derby supporter and the second-place winner in the 2021 derby. Walli passed away last July due to injuries sustained from an ATV crash.
The Calcutta Auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25, at the Virl “Pa” Haga VFW Post 10221, preceded by a registration period and fundraising raffle starting at 5 p.m. The registration fee for all anglers this year is $100. Anglers and boats must be registered and all registration fees paid in full by 6:30 p.m. on Friday. No registration changes will be allowed once the Calcutta Auction begins, including no changes in fishermen, according to the tournament official rules.
All registered anglers must have a valid 2025 fishing license and a valid King Salmon Stamp. The Anchor Point Tractor Launch will open at 6 a.m. on tournament day. Lines go in no earlier than 8 a.m., and lines must be out of the water by 4 p.m.
Weigh-in will take place this year at the APCOC building at 34175 Sterling Highway. All fish must be weighed in no later than 6 p.m.
Winners will be announced at 7-7:30 p.m. on tournament day at the Anchor Point VFW Post 10221. Prize payouts will be awarded to the first, second and third top anglers, as well as “Average Fish,” top youth angler and a Calcutta 50/50 split between the Calcutta boat bidder and the chamber. Door prizes will also be given out over the weekend.
In addition to the main tournament prizes, registered boats will have the opportunity to place side bets. Winnings will be distributed by the Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce within one week after the tournament’s end.
In the event of inclement weather on Saturday, the tournament will be postponed until Sunday, April 27. Due to fishing regulations, there is no backup weekend scheduled for the 2025 tournament, according to the chamber website.
