The 29th annual Anchor Point King Salmon Derby, sponsored by the Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Saturday, April 27.
The Calcutta Auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26 at the Angry Salmon, preceded by a dinner and registration period from 5-6:30 p.m. The registration fee for all anglers this year is $130, including the cost of dinner during Friday’s Calcutta. Anglers and boats must be registered and all registration fees paid in full by 6:30 p.m. on Friday. No registration changes will be allowed once the Calcutta Auction begins, including no changes in fishermen and no standby fishermen, according to the tournament official rules.
All registered anglers must have a valid 2024 fishing license and a valid King Salmon Stamp. The Anchor Point Tractor Launch will open at 6 a.m. on tournament day. Lines go in no earlier than 7 a.m., and lines must be out of the water by 4 p.m.
Weigh-in will take place this year at the APCOC building at 34175 Sterling Highway. All fish must be weighed in no later than 6 p.m. All fish caught during the tournament must be called in to the boat launch at time of catch, the chamber website states.
Winners will be announced at 7-7:30 p.m. on tournament day at the Anchor Point VFW Post 10221. Prize payouts will be awarded to the first, second and third top anglers, as well as “Average Fish,” top youth angler and a Calcutta 50/50 split between the Calcutta boat bidder and the chamber. Random door prizes will also be given out over the weekend.
In addition to the main tournament prizes, registered boats will have the opportunity to place side bets. Winnings will be distributed by the Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce within one week after the tournament’s end.
In the event of inclement weather on Saturday, the tournament will be postponed until Sunday, April 28. Due to fishing regulations, there is no backup weekend scheduled for the 2024 tournament, according to the chamber website.
