Advisory lifted at 11 a.m. Saturday.

No tsunami evacuation order was issued for the coastal areas of Homer, according to the City of Homer. The National Weather Service Tsunami Warning Center lifted an advisory at 11 a.m. for the Kachemak Bay and Resurrection Bay communities.

The National Weather Service Tsunami Warning Center earlier this morning issued the tsunami advisory following an underwater volcanic eruption in Tonga that happened at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The advisory is in effect for the coastal areas of California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska from the border to Attu.

“Small sea rises have been observed in Alaska,” the city’s website said. “The City of Homer Emergency Management team is monitoring the situation and will provide an update if anything changes. Sirens will alert residents if an evacuation.”
