Two contenders are now vying for the mayor’s seat in the Oct. 1 municipal election.
City council member Rachel Lord previously filed her intent to run for mayor. Jim Anderson, current vice president for the Homer Chamber of Commerce, filed for candidacy Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Anderson has served as vice president for the chamber since January. He has also served on the Homer Council of the Arts board of directors since October 2023.
Born and raised in Homer, Anderson has “extensive background” in cultural arts and corporate management, including marketing, sales, compliance and strategic growth and development, according to his candidate statement.
“I decided to run for mayor because I am passionate about Homer’s future and a strategic growth plan that will ensure broader job opportunities, more affordable housing, stronger youth development programs, and intentional, yet responsible, business growth in the Homer area,” he wrote in his statement.
