The Homer Youth String Orchestra Club performs its annual spring concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Homer Council on the Arts. The concert is free and open to the public. There also is a reception and dessert auction with the performance.

The Homer Youth String Orchestra Club was formed on the inspiration of the late Sally Kabisch, a Homer Suzuki violin teacher. Kabisch believed strongly in the Suzuki method, and recognized the need to offer group playing opportunities for string students in the Homer area since Kenai Peninsula public schools do not offer strings instruction. Kabisch started teaching group lessons.

Conducted by Lisa Schallock, the Homer Youth String Orchestra Club has 17 members playing in three ability groups: the Prelude Ensemble with three beginning violin students, the Orchestra with 11 intermediate students playing violins, cellos and violas, and the Trio with three advanced high school students.
