Homer Police arrested and charged Eugene “Gene” Tagala, 45, in the murder of Dan Stailey, 24, in the Bayside Lounge parking lot on Pioneer Avenue. Police said Tagala told them he shot Stailey three times after a discussion regarding drug sales. Witnesses inside the bar said they didn’t hear gunshots, but knew something was wrong when Stailey came into the bar gasping and then fell to the floor.
“It was terrifying,” said bartender Denise Rossi. “I’ve been bartending 11 years and had a gun to my head once, but never anything like this.”
