Homer’s Wearable Arts Runway Show returns to the stage on Friday, Oct. 25 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Kannery restaurant on the Sterling Highway. Doors open at 7 p.m. The runway show starts at 8 p.m.
The title of this year’s show is “Homer Shares the Runway.” It will function a little more casually than Wearable Arts shows of the past, though the show will still celebrate local fabric artists and models. Attendees who want to participate need to come dressed and ready to walk the runway, or they can wear their own collections and choose not to walk. There’s no additional registration fee for the runway component.
Kari Multz, owner and operator of the Fringe and coordinator of the event, said the organization, Homer’s Fiber Arts Collective, expected 2023 to be the last year of the show. There still seemed to be a lot of interest in the show, however, especially from newer and younger residents. She said people have been asking her what the theme is and “there really just still seemed to be quite a bit of excitement about it,” she said.
She said this year’s show offers a way celebrate years past and gives the community the opportunity to model their own clothing — either vintage, costume or homemade. “It’s an opportunity for people to wear the things from their closets that they may have purchased in former shows,” she said.
Multz said this year’s show won’t have a backstage changing area so attendees need to come prepared to model the pieces they want to show. Multz said some of the pieces will be available for purchase. If a particular piece is available, the emcee will announce that as the model walks the runway. Purchase will be negotiated directly with the seller.
Cocktails and buffet appetizers will also be available for purchase. Tickets are $45 and on sale at the Fringe in Homer for cash only. If there are any tickets remaining on Friday those will be available for purchase at the Kannery.
