There will be a hazardous waste collection day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.,. Saturday, July 7 at the Homer Transfer Facility. This event is for households and small businesses. It will be free to households with fees charged to commercial disposers.
All businesses are required to pre-register with NRC Alaska. Only households with more than 55 gallons of waste must pre-register. NRC Alaska manages this event. The Kenai Peninsula Borough Solid Waste Department provides the location.

Democratic Primary U.S. House of Representatives Debate will be held in Homer from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 10. CAN (Citizen’s AKtion Network) and The District 31 Democrats are sponsoring and hosting a debate at the Pioneer Hall at Kachemak Bay Campus between undeclared candidate Alyse Galvin and Democratic candidate Dimitri Shein, who are running for the U.S. House of Representatives seat in the Democratic primary.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the formal moderated debate will be held at 6 p.m. and is to be followed by one hour of questions and answers with both candidates answering questions from both the on site and online audiences.

The Kachemak Bay Birders’ next birding trip will be to Seldovia, taking the Seldovia Bay Ferry on Wednesday, July 11. The ferry leaves at 11 a.m. and returns at 4:30 p.m. For ferry cost and other necessary details, see http://seldoviabayferry.com.
This trip will be led by Cindy Mom, owner and operator of Seldovia Nature Tours. Be prepared with good walking shoes, layers of clothing for variable weather, and binoculars (and a scope if you want to pack it around all day). Expect mosquitoes and mud in some locations. Bring a packed lunch, snacks and water.

Kachemak Crane Watch asks that residents report crane sightings. Sandhill Crane colts will be hatching in the next few weeks. These colts are small and very susceptible to predation by dogs and cats. If you see crane colts, please keep your pets under control.

Anchor Point Senior Citizens
The Anchor Point Senior Center on Milo Fritz Road is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday. The center serves Thursday night dinners starting at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
