Kenai Peninsula Votes tidbit:

Our City and Borough elections are coming up on Tuesday, Oct. 1. The total voter turnout for the 2018 Kenai Peninsula Borough election was 18.7%. Breaking down voter turnout by Precincts: Homer 1 was 26%, Homer 2 was 25%, Diamond Ridge was 25%, Kachemak City/Fritz was 30%, and Anchor Point was 18%. Kenai Peninsula Votes (KPV) wants to see these percentages increase. If you are reading this column, you’re probably a regular voter. KPV would like you to talk to people you think might not vote, and encourage them to vote. Really, that is one good method increase voter turnout.

Beginning on Sept. 16, Homer City Hall will be open during their regular business hours so you can vote early in the City and Borough elections. The Borough is sending out their voting pamphlet this week so you can locate the sample ballot for your area, and learn more about the candidates and the propositions. You can also look at sample ballots on both Homer and Borough elections respective websites.

Whoever said that voting is easy — it’s not. It’s complicated. But if we actively participate in conversations about voting we can get more people to vote.
