Art Shop Gallery hosts “Echoes of Earth and Sky,” an exhibit of work by the Story family. Chris Story has been creating raku pottery since 1988 and will showcase a selection of hand-built, Japanese-style tea bowl succulent pots. Garrett Story will feature his landscape photography intended to capture the raw beauty of Alaska’s vistas. Bunnell Street Arts Center presents mixed media and textile work by artist Abigail Kokai. This exhibit features a fictional space character, Aelon Funk, and his travels along an extraterrestrial installation. From a previous exhibit, the “Panda Mick’s” universe, a family of small, plush, Muppet-like characters Kokai created during the pandemic, viewers follow the new adventures of the recent jackpot lottery winner, 97-year-old Aelon Funk, the self-proclaimed billionaire space boi. “Study in Portraiture,” Kachemak Bay Watercolor Society paintings

Fireweed Gallery continues its exhibit, “Study in Portraiture,” with watercolor paintings by several members of the Kachemak Bay Watercolor Society. Each fall, the society offers members a workshop to challenge their artistic skills and provide an opportunity to learn new techniques. This fall’s workshop was portrait painting, instructed by guest watercolor artist Faelin Linn from California. Work on display is by artists from Homer and Soldotna. Grace Ridge Brewing showcases work by Megan Frost. Incorporating numerous elements into her pieces, her mixed media paintings combine styles, materials and themes, explore cyclical nature and observe minute as well as overarching patterns and use music and movement to achieve compositions. Multiple painting techniques are employed, including Naturalistic Realism, Portraiture, Surrealistic Abstraction, Pointillism and Impressionism. Frost’s designs often feature symbolic imposed ornamentation and colors are intuitively selected and distributed to create a sense of atmosphere and are composed of layers of combinations of different kinds of paints to create color and texture. “Fun With 5×7” Community Art Exhibit

Homer Council on the Arts continues their exhibit, “Fun with 5×7,” a small works show that challenged artists to think inside the box, experiment and try something new. An open call for art from all ages, abilities, mediums and subjects, the exhibit features a wide variety of work by a myriad of artists and creators. Nominations for a People’s Choice Award are now open through Dec. 14. Everyone is invited to nominate one piece of artwork. Stop by the gallery and fill out a paper slip with the title and artist. Kindred Spirits Weaving Studio is the creative space of local weavers Lisa Talbott of Raven Fed Designs and Bonita Banks of sit.breathe.weave. Community members are invited to step inside their working studio to find works-in-progress on multiple looms, along with a variety of handwoven and mixed media products for sale. During this month’s opening, the weavers will discuss heritage textiles like quilts and tablecloths, christening gowns and baby blankets, and the stories they tell. They will share stories of their own vintage items passed down through their families and invite community members to bring their own heritage textile and share the associated story. “Rarefied Light 2023,” an exhibit of photography by Alaska Photographic Center

Pratt Museum hosts Anchorage photographer Kevin G. Smith, who will discuss his submissions to the show Rarefied Light 2023, currently on display in the museum’s main gallery. Ptarmigan Arts presents a pop-up show on Friday, Dec. 6 of work by one of their newest members, Michelle Michaud. The artist will exhibit her watercolor, acrylic, oil and cold wax paintings that depict a variety of themes, including florals, landscapes and birds as well as abstract imagery.
