HCOA holds Second Friday show

The Homer Council on the Arts holds a Second Friday show from 5-7 p.m. Friday. Artist and HCOA volunteer Gundega Snepste has decorated the gallery with traditional Latvian style decorations. The name of her show is “Puzuri,” a Latvian word for the kind of decoration she used. There will be refreshments and live music as well.

Marian Call performs Saturday

Alaska songwriter Marian Call performs in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Bunnell Street Arts Center. With Seth Boyer, Call plays original songs featuring piano, guitar and vocals. Part of Bunnell’s 24th anniversary celebration, the concert includes birthday cake and beverages. Admission is $18 general, $15 Bunnell members.

Dvorak, Morelli receive Combs awards from Bunnell arts center

Painter Suzanne Dvorak and ceramic artist Cynthia Morelli have each received $1,500 Alex Combs Awards from the Bunnell Street Arts Center. The Combs Award, named after the late Halibut Cove artist, support artistic advancement through workshops to outstanding applicants. Dvorak will use her award to attend a one-week ARTLIFE Workshop this month in Hawaii with painter Nicholas Wilton. Morelli will use her award to attend a woodfire conference and workshop next October in Sugar Grove, Ill.

Grandmother Drum concert set

White Eagle Medicine Woman, Suraj Holzwarth, and Grandmother Drum perform a concert from 4-7 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Sterling Community Center. The event celebrates the release of Holy Ground, White Eagle Medicine Woman’s CD recorded with an international tour of Grandmother Drum during a 2013-14 European World Peace Tour. The CD also features tracks recorded by artists from Hawaii, Peru, New Zealand, Africa and Australia. A fundraiser for the Homer-based Whirling Rainbow Foundation, tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door and can be purchased by calling 907-745-5636 or at whilringrainbow.com.
