Body movement class
set to start Sept. 16
An Insightful Body Movement class starts Sept. 16 at the Homer Council on the Arts for people with Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, the after effects of stroke or tremors. Taught by Dotti Harness-Foster and Cathy Stingley, the exercise program focuses on flexibility, balance and coordination. “Mobilize your feet and hands, strengthen your core and gain insight to how you move, vocalize and swallow, and learn tips to redirect a ‘frozen’ gait,” she said.

Square and contra dance
set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday
Back after a summer hiatus, the monthly square and contra dance is 7:30 p.m. Saturday at West Homer Elementary School. Music is by Spit City Slickers. Please bring soft soled non-marking dance shoes.
Admission is $7 adults and ages 15 and younger free.
White House Christmas ornament sessions start
Halibut Cove artist Annette Bellamy and nine other artists have been selected to create ornaments for the 2015 White House Christmas trees. The artists will help create and collect from 4,500 to 5,000 ornaments.
From 4-6:30 p.m. Friday and Sept. 11 at the Homer Council on the Arts, Bellamy helps artists at an open studio to create ornaments.
The theme Bellamy has chosen is “boats.” Ornaments should weigh no more than 8 ounces and be no more than 12 inches. Friday’s session is to design and create ornaments and the Sept. 11 session is to stain and finish works.

One-act theater workshop is Sept. 1-24 at HCOA
Casey Parratt teaches the elements of one-act plays in a youth-theater workshop running 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays Sept. 1-24 at the Homer Council on the Arts. For ages 10-14, the class is $80 for HCOA members and $96 for nonmembers. To register, call 235-4288 or visit homerart.org.
Anchorage Museum seeks All Alaska entries
The deadline for the Anchorage Museum’s All Alaska Biennial show is Sept. 6. The All Alaska Biennial will celebrate the contemporary work of Alaska artists, and works are encouraged to explore the authentic North, its people, materials and landscapes, through a variety of interpretations. The juror is Jen Budney, an independent writer and curator who has held positions with the Mendel Art Gallery, Kamloops Art Gallery, Canada Council for the Arts, Gallery 101, and Flash Art International. Submissions for these exhibitions are accepted through CallForEntry.org.
