Seldovia’s 4th annual Songs on the Slough this weekend

Songs on the Slough, the annual on-the-water concert sponsored by the Seldovia Arts Council, returns for the fourth year this weekend.

Two shows will be held on Friday, July 26 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, July 27 from 7-9 p.m., featuring the Anchorage-based band, Agents of Karma.

This “one-of-a-kind” concert is timed with the tides and takes place on a floating dock, where music enthusiasts can watch from the water in whatever vessel they prefer — from kayaks to paddleboards to boats — or onshore from the pavilion/harbor parking lot on Friday or from the bridge on Saturday.

Friday’s show — a “special, intimate, unique” concert featuring Karmic Reduction, a reduced group comprised of a couple Agents of Karma members and guest performer Mark Manners — will be held in the boat harbor below the community pavilion, according to Seldovia Arts Council chairman Suzie Stranik.

Saturday’s show features the full Agents of Karma group plus Manners and will be held on a floating stage on the town side of the slough.

Stranik credited John Sedor for coming up with the idea for Songs on the Slough four years ago.

“I think Seldovia is a really artistic community, and it’s really special listening to music out on the water,” Sedor said. “When we got our floating dock, the first thing we talked about was having music performances on it. So far, it’s gone really well; it’s well-received by the community.”

There are no fees or tickets costs; the concert is free to attend. However, donations to the Seldovia Arts Council, a nonprofit organization, are welcome. Concert-goers may donate at the event or online.
