Callers at 8:21 a.m. and 6:03 p.m.. reported campers in a no-camping area at Bishop’s Beach. At 8:05 p.m. police warned people not to camp there.
Callers at 1 p.m. and 1:20 p.m. reported a phone scam.
A woman at 6 p.m. reported a burglary at a Sabrina Road address.
Aug. 9
A person at 2:29 a.m. made a 911 of a person trying to break into a Danview Avenue home. Police responded but could not find the suspect.
A caller at 1:02 p.m. reported a person continually trespassing at a Bunnell Avenue address. Police issued a man a 1-year trespass notice.
A woman at 2:01 p.m. reported theft of narcotics from an unlocked car.
A caller at 2:09 p.m. reported a disturbance at a Lake Street business. Police responded and arrested a 21-year-old man for fourth-degree assault and criminal mischief.
Police at 3:01 p.m. charged a 34-year-old man with disorderly conduct after he was warned for being in a no-camping area at Bishop’s Beach.
A caller at 7:30 p.m. reported a missing 3-year-old child on the Spit. Police and firefighters responded. The child was later found OK.
Aug. 10
A person at 2:51 a.m. made a 911 call of a domestic dispute at a Ben Walters Lane address. Police, firefighters and Alaska State Troopers responded. EMTs transported a 23-year-old woman to South Peninsula Hospital and then arrested her for three counts of fourth-degree assault, resisting arrest, first-degree harassment and disorderly conduct.
A caller at 2:50 p.m. reported people possibly stranded by water at the Mud Bay beach near Kachemak Drive. A harbor office responded and determined the people were OK and just fishing.
A man at 3:18 p.m. reported a dispute over ownership of a tent.
Aug. 11
A caller at 7:16 a.m. reported a man on Bishop’s Beach cutting up logs in violation of beach ordinances prohibiting cutting driftwood in the storm berm.
A caller at 2:58 p.m. reported people camping in a no-camping area at Bishop’s Bach and leaving trash.
A caller at 4:22 p.m. made a “report every dangerous driver immediately” complaint of a driver in a car weaving and hitting the guard rail on West Hill Road.
A caller at 11:18 p.m. reported a drunk person at a Lake Street address. Police responded and took a 22-year-old woman into protective custody.
Aug. 12
A caller at 2:11 a.m. reported people playing in a drum circle at a Spit campground. Police responded but could not find the musicians.
A caller at 11:24 a.m. reported a man lying in a white Toyota pickup truck that has been parked for a week at Mariner Park. Police contacted the man and advised him to park his truck elsewhere to camp.
A caller at 11:41 a.m. reported a driver in a car speeding on Beluga Place and on Bishop’s Beach near pedestrians and parked cars. Police responded but could not find the suspect.
A man at 1:01 p.m. reported someone keyed and vandalized his car while it was parked on the Spit.
A woman at 2:40 p.m. reported the theft of a bicycle.
Police at 3:57 p.m. did a security check at Bishop’s Beach and advised two men to move for violating city camping regulations.
Police at 4:16 p.m. saw a car about to be swamped by the tide on the Spit. Police contacted the registered owners and took them to the Spit to move their car.
A person at 4:42 p.m. made a 911 call of a drunk woman leaving a Greatland Street business and driving away. Police could not find the suspect.
A caller at 6:39 p.m. made a REDDI complaint of a driver heading out on the Spit. Police contacted the suspect and determine she wasn’t drunk but drove without her glasses.
Several people at 8:51 p.m. made 911 calls of a car rollover near Mile 169 Sterling Highway. No one was severely injured.
A man at 10:57 p.m. reported a moose-car crash near Mile 172 Sterling Highway.
Aug. 13
A caller at 11 a.m. reported an employee did not show up for work at a Spit business and removed belongings from a work residence.
An employee at 1:14 p.m. reported a shoplifter left the store in a car but was caught on video.
A person at 2:45 p.m. brought in a suspicious bone found on Bishop’s Beach that the person was concerned might be human. Police took the bone to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to identify.
A man at 3:45 p.m. reported three men walking down Lake Street in ghillie, or camouflage, suits. Police contacted three teenage men and determined they were playing paintball. All was OK.
Police at 4:24 p.m. saw a car on Bishop’s Beach swamped by the incoming tide. Police contacted the registered owner who agreed to move the car at low tide.
A man at 5:19 p.m. reported a traffic hazard with many cars stopped and people taking photos of a bald eagle on the Sterling Highway near Lake Street.
A caller at 7:29 p.m. reported a car swerving across several lanes of traffic with a man and woman possibly in an argument. Police stopped the car, a 1970 green Pontiac, and determined no one was impaired. A father and daughter had been arguing.
A caller at 10:16 p.m. reported a drunk man bothering campers and refusing to leave on the Spit. Police contacted the man and separated the parties. The man left.
Aug. 14
A woman at 3:28 a.m. made a 911 call that her ex-boyfriend was at her Early Spring Street home and knocking on her door. The man damaged a screen before leaving. Police found the man, age 22, and arrested him for fifth-degree criminal mischief.
Police at 11:07 a.m. attempted to find a person for a change-of-plea hearing at the courthouse. Police couldn’t find the man.
A woman at 3:15 p.m. reported a driver in a car nearly hit her on Ben Walters Lane.
A woman at 3:39 p.m. reported finding a disoriented man at her Jeffrey Avenue home. Alcohol and drug use was involved. Police and EMTs responded and took the man to the hospital.
A hospital employee at 4:40 p.m. reported a man was at the emergency room who had been assaulted.
Several people at 5:34 p.m. reported a man with his pants around his ankles who would not leave a Sterling Highway business when asked. Police responded and arrested a 67-year-old man for trespassing, sixth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, marijuana, and two counts of violating conditions of release.
Aug. 15
A caller at 4 p.m. made a REDDI complaint of a driver in a white Chevrolet station wagon on the Sterling Highway. Police contacted the suspect and issued a warning.
A caller at 4:52 p.m. made a REDDI complaint of a driver in a white Ford pickup truck on the Sterling Highway near Main Street. Police contacted the driver and cited him for passing in a no-passing zone.
A man at 8:30 p.m. reported people camping on private property along Kachemak Drive. Police responded and told the campers to leave.
Police at 10:39 p.m. contacted a 39-year-old man during a traffic stop on the Spit and arrested him on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court.
Aug. 16
A caller at 12:27 p.m. reported a man lying on the sidewalk on Main Street who wouldn’t get up. Police contacted the man and he returned to his campsite.
Police at 3:27 p.m. contacted a student in a ghillie suit at Homer High School. School officials will handle the case.
Police at 7:05 p.m. contacted a 19-year-old man in a car parked on West Hill Road and the Sterling Highway and issued him a summons for sixth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, marijuana.
Aug. 17
Police at 3:01 a.m. contacted a 23-year-old man driving on Lake Street and issued him a summons for driving while license suspended.
A caller at 12:42 p.m. reported a person operating a hovercraft in the road on Kachemak Way. Police responded and advised the hovercraft operator to stay out of the road.
Police at 4:45 p.m. assisted EMTs at Bishop’s Beach.
A person at 10:17 p.m. made a 911 call of a passenger making threats at the airport after being denied boarding. Police responded and took the passenger to a local hotel.
