Gene Nixon

Sept. 1, 1956 – April 16, 2020

Gene Nixon. 63, a former long-time resident of Homer, Alaska, passed away on April 16, 2020, at his residence in Marble Falls, Texas.

He is survived by his wife Ava Jones; father, James Nixon; sister, Julia Nixon; and brother, John Nixon.

Gene was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and served proudly in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic with the 101st Airborne. After his military service he moved to Homer, Alaska, and started a long career with Homer Electric Association, where he was shop manager overseeing the fleet of heavy equipment used to maintain power on the lower Kenai Peninsula.

After Gene retired from HEA in 2011, he and his wife Ava moved to Marble Falls, Texas, where they spent many happy times exploring their new home state and soaking up the warm Texas sun. Gene was passionate about snow machining, loved motorcycle riding and enjoyed classic car restoration projects.

Gene was also very involved the local adult Soap Box Derby league and won several awards. In lieu of flowers, please do what Gene would do — donate to your local animal rescue center.
