Jan. 5
Firefighters went to a fire in a garage at a Sterling Highway address. Crews found smoke coming out of a detached garage with a vehicle inside. The home owner turned off the breaker to the home before firefighters arrived. Firefighters found smoke with no fire inside the garage and the vehicle damaged. The cause remains under investigation.

Homer Police
Jan. 4
A caller at 9:20 a.m. asked police to do a welfare check on a woman in the back seat of a vehicle parked at a Greatland Street parking lot. Police found the woman inside the business and all was OK.
A man at 11:19 a.m. turned in found property at the police station. Police contacted the owner.
Several people at 1:04 p.m. made 911 calls for a vehicle crash with damage on Kachemak Way.
A 31-year-old woman at 1:15 p.m. turned herself in at the police station on a warrant.
A woman at 1:32 p.m. came to the police station to report a hit-and-run that had happened earlier on Lake Street.
A caller at 3:03 p.m. reported ongoing harassment.
A man at 3:37 p.m. reported possible forged documents and fraud.
A woman at 4:30 p.m. reported a violation of a temporary restraining order.
Jan. 5
A caller at 11:14 a.m. reported a drunk woman walking down the middle of Main Street and stumbling into traffic. Police contacted the woman and got her secured at a home with responsible parties watching her.
A caller at 11:14 a.m. reported a vehicle theft on the Spit.
An official with the Federal Aviation Administration reported a possible emergency signal in the area.
Jan. 6
A caller at 1:32 a.m. reported seeing on live video an unauthorized person in the South Peninsula Athletics and Recreation Complex on the Sterling Highway. Police responded but could not find the suspect. Following a tip from a citizen at 10:55 a.m., police found the suspect at the Homer Public Library and arrested a 25-year-old man for burglary.
A caller at 3:53 p.m. made a “report every dangerous driver immediately” complaint of a driver on East End Road. Police stopped the suspect driver and did not see any impairment. Police issued the driver a citation for driving while license suspended.
A person at 4:49 p.m. made a 911 call of a domestic dispute at a Bay Avenue home. Police responded and separated the parties for the night.
A woman at 11:58 p.m. made a 911 call reporting she had been assaulted at a Mattox Road address. Police responded and determined there was no crime. Police separated the parties for the night.
Jan. 7
Police at 3:39 a.m. contacted people outside a closed business on the Sterling Highway. Police warned a driver not to drive until insured.
A caller at 4:54 a.m. reported a suspicious vehicle at a Main Street parking lot. Police contacted the suspect.
A man at 8:30 a.m. reported a moose-vehicle crash with no damage on West Hill Road.

A caller at 2:25 p.m. reported a truck might have broken through ice on Beluga Lake. Police responded and determined all was OK.
A caller at 8:02 p.m. asked police to respond for a drunk man at a meeting on Pioneer Avenue.
Several people at 8:49 p.m. reported a drunk man stumbling in the road on Pioneer Avenue. Police responded.
A caller at 11:02 p.m. reported a drunk man broke a window at a Pioneer Avenue building. Police responded and arrested a 30-year-old man for criminal mischief, fourth-degree theft and being drunk at license premises.
Jan. 9
A caller at 10:20 a.m. reported a theft from a mail box on East Hill Road.
A woman at 11:20 a.m. reported fraud.
Police at 3:57 p.m. arrested a 32-year-old man on a warrant.
Troopers
Jan. 14
Alaska State Troopers at 5:54 p.m. contacted the driver of a vehicle stopped in the road near Mile 158 Sterling Highway in Anchor Point. Troopers did a records check on the driver, a 21-year-old Homer man, and found he had an outstanding arrest warrant. A further investigation showed the man possessed heroin. Troopers arrested the man on the warrant.

Wayland G. Branstetter, 49, Anchor Point, charges dismissed, driving while license cancelled, revoked, suspended or limited, two counts; violating conditions of release. He pleaded guilty to two other charges of violating conditions of release. He was fined $150 and ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund.
Michael W. Ardenia, 18, charges dismissed, fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, fifth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance. He pleaded guilty to driving under the influence. He was fined $2,000 with $500 suspended and sentenced to 30 days in jail with 27 days suspended; ordered to pay $75 to support the Police Training Fund, a $150 jail surcharge with $100 suspended and the $330 cost of imprisonment; ordered to attend an alcohol safety action program and install an ignition interlock device; had his driver’s license revoked for 90 days; and was placed on probation for one year.
Jasiah K. Carlson, 25, charge dismissed, fourth-degree criminal mischief. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. He was sentenced to one day in jail and ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund and a $50 jail surcharge.
Rueben J. Lopez, 35, Locher Lowden, Wash., charges dismissed, refusal to submit to a chemical test, no liability insurance. He pleaded guilty to driving under the influence.
