Alaska Wildlife Troopers at 11:11 a.m. received a report of a man floating out into Cook Inlet on a large chunk of ice near the Anchor Point beach tractor launch. Troopers arrived at 11:47 a.m. and saw the man adrift about 300 yards offshore. The man clung to a large piece of ice with only his head and arms visible. The trooper launched an inflatable raft and rowed out to the man. Troopers also notified the U.S. Coast Guard, who put out an alert to mariners. The crew of the F/V Misty responded and arrived at the same time as the trooper. The victim, a 45-year-old Homer man, did not wear a flotation device and had difficulty staying afloat, but was conscious and breathing. The man was pulled aboard the Misty and taken to shore, where the trooper loaded him into the raft and transported him to waiting EMTs and an ambulance. EMTs took the man to South Peninsula Hospital for treatment of hypothermia. He was expected to fully recover.
