April 2
An agency at 11:30 a.m. passed on a report regarding illegal campers on Bishop’s Beach. Officers responded to the scene but were unable to find any campers in the area.
A caller at 7:25 p.m. reported people attempting to steal building materials from private property on FAA Road. An officer later contacted the people in question and issued them trespass notices.
An officer at 11:06 p.m. checked the Bishop’s Beach area for illegal camping. The officer warned one person found there about camping regulations.
An officer at 11:23 p.m. checked Beluga Place near Crittenden Drive and Hidden Way for illegal camping. The officer contacted one person and warned them not to camp on the beach.
April 3
A caller at 3:42 a.m. reported multiple people lurking in a parking lot on Ocean Drive. An officer went to the scene, and found the call was unfounded.
A caller at 2:24 a.m. reported suspicious people on Ocean Drive. An officer responded to the area but was unable to locate anyone suspicious.
A caller at 2:49 a.m. reported suspicious people lurking near a business on Ocean Drive. Officers went to the scene and found the report was unfounded.
Officers at 9:32 a.m. assisted medics on Felix Circle.
A caller at 5:12 p.m. made a Report Every Dangerous Vehicle Immediately (REDDI) report on a vehicle at Bishop’s Beach. An officer went to the area and contacted the driver, but noted no impairment.
April 4
A caller at 3:52 a.m. reported hearing voices outside their home on Ocean Drive. An officer responded to the area and was unable to locate anyone.
April 5
A caller at 4:22 p.m. requested a welfare check on a man on Heidi Court. An officer went to that location but was unable to locate anyone.
A caller at 6:50 p.m. reported a single vehicle crash on Kachemak Drive. Officers took the 25-year-old female driver to South Peninsula Hospital and charges of driving under the influence will be referred.
April 6
A caller at 1:24 a.m. reported a disturbance at a neighboring home on Tamara Street. The caller said one of the people left in a vehicle. An officer went to the area and attempted to contact people involved.
A person at 12:10 p.m. made a written report of chronic parking violations on Mountain View Drive. An officer contacted the vehicle’s registered owner and advised them to move the vehicle.
A caller at 4:42 p.m. made a REDDI report on a vehicle at Mile 170 Sterling Highway. An officer contacted the driver and noted no impairment.
April 7
A handicapped caller at 1:03 a.m. reported that a crawlspace sump pump was running for an extended period of time at the home on Poppy Circle and that it would not stop. An officer went to the location to help.
A caller at 8:14 a.m. reported a vehicle possibly abandoned on private property on West Pioneer Avenue. An officer contacted the registered owner and advised them to move the vehicle.
A caller at 2:15 p.m. made a REDDI report on a vehicle at Mile 168 Sterling Highway. An officer contacted the driver and detected no impairment.
A caller at 6:02 p.m. reported a dog tied up on her property on Mattox Street that did not belong to her and asked for it to be removed. An officer was notified and the animal control officer was sent to pick up the dog.
A caller at 8:11 p.m. reporter a suspicious person on Ohlson Mountain Road believed to be wanted who was “casing cars.” Officers put out a “be on the lookout” notice.
A caller at 8:14 p.m. reported fireworks on Bishop’s Beach near Crittenden Drive. An officer went to the area but was unable to locate them.
A caller at 9:10 p.m. reported a yearling moose with a broken leg on Carlson Place. Officers and another agency were notified.
An officer at 9:15 p.m. made a security check on a building on the Homer Bypass, and contacted a vehicle with two people inside.
A caller at 9:53 p.m. reported a fight happening at the Ferry Terminal on Spit Road. Officers went to the scene but the people fighting were gone when they arrived.
A caller at 9:55 p.m. reported a domestic disturbance in the apartment above theirs on Ocean Drive Loop. An officer went to the scene and found it had been a verbal altercation.
An officer at 10:32 p.m. gave a driver at East End Road and Slavin Drive a driving under the influence warning. A taxi was called to the scene for the driver.
A caller at 11:27 p.m. reported an intoxicated man lying on the sidewalk near a business at Pioneer Avenue and Bartlett Street. An officer responded to the scene and gave the man a ride.
April 8
Officers at 7:46 p.m. arrested a 57-year-old man on East Pioneer Avenue on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court and took him to the Homer Jail. The man was also served a domestic violence protective order.
A caller at 9:32 p.m. reported a fire in a vacant lot on Jenny Way. Officers and the Homer Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. One person was contacted and given a warning for expired registration.
A caller at 10:04 p.m. reported a dispute with a family member on Ben Walters Lane. Officers went to the scene and found no crime had been committed.
April 9
An officer at 1:22 a.m. checked the beach area near Jenny Way for illegal camping and found two people. They were given trespass notices for the area.
A caller at 6:49 a.m. reported a domestic dispute on FAA Road. Officers went to the location and the people were separated.
A caller at 10:13 a.m. reported a traffic hazard of debris in the road at Mile 171.5 Sterling Highway. An officer responded to the location.
A caller at 11:54 a.m. reported a suspicious man near a school on Ocean Drive. Officers went to the scene.
A caller at 3:43 p.m. reported ongoing parking issues on Cityview Avenue. An officer responded to the area.
A woman at 4:40 p.m. went to the Homer Police Station to report an incident of indecent exposure experienced on FAA Road.
A caller at 8:38 p.m. made a REDDI report on a vehicle on Shelford Street. Officers found the vehicle parked and unoccupied at a local bar. They advised the driver of the complaint and warned them not to drive again that night.
An officer at 9:20 p.m. stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on East Pioneer Avenue and advised the driver of a trespass notice against them.
An officer at 11:39 p.m. contacted two vehicles at a closed business on Ben Walters Lane. The officer issued one man a disorderly conduct warning for the night.
An officer at 11:58 p.m. made a security check of Jack Gist Park and contacted a 36-year-old man who was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
Troopers
April 1
Alaska State Troopers at 11 a.m. received a call from the Seldovia Police Department requesting assistance in investigating a motor vehicle crash with injuries involving one of their police vehicles. Troopers responded and an investigation showed a motorcycle being driven by a 20-year-old Seldovia man and a pickup being driven by a 46-year-old Police Chief of Seldovia, had collided on Jakolof Bay Road near Olestad Road. Both individuals were transported to Homer Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
Courts
Judgments
Julian R. Stowe, 26, pleaded guilty to giving false information to an officer. He was ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training fund and a $150 jail surcharge with $100 suspended.
Brett J. Bashaw, 69, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence. He was fined $2,000 with $500 suspended and sentenced to 30 days in jail or on monitoring with 27 days suspended; ordered to pay $75 to support the Police Training Fund, a $150 jail surcharge with $100 suspended and the $66 cost of imprisonment or monitoring; ordered to attend an alcohol safety action program and install an ignition interlock device; had his driver’s license revoked for 90 days; and was placed on probation for one year.
David Vetterkind, 56, pleaded guilty to reckless driving. He was sentenved to serve 90 days with 90 days suspended and fined $1,000 with $500 suspended; ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund and a $50 jail surcharge; had his driver’s license revoked for 30 days and was placed on probation for one year.
Nathan D. Suydam, 21, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence.
