Best Bets

Who loves you, Betsteroids? That’s right — your mama. Don’t forget the annual celebration of mothers this Sunday, May 14. That’s the second Sunday in May. Sunday, kids. Sunday.

Usually, here in Homer the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival falls on the Mother’s Day weekend, but not this year. Mothers, you have this whole weekend to yourself, with the added bonus that a lot of the summer businesses have already opened.

Some of you won’t be celebrating Mother’s Day with your mom physically present. Brothers and sisters, the Betster shares your grief. Mothers can be such a constant in our lives that when they slip this mortal coil, we forget they won’t always be there.

In the world of memory and love, don’t we always hold our mothers dear in our heart? Doesn’t her spirit endure in us? Sometimes you might glance over your shoulder and think you see her. Maybe our mothers float on the wind, always surrounding us and caring for us, even when their souls have passed into the beyond.

The world keeps getting warmer and greener, the light longer and brighter. Cherish our mothers, even if only in spirit, with these Best Bets:
