BEST COLLEGE COUNCIL BET: The Kenai Peninsula College Council is a monthly public meeting where college leadership reports on KPC programs, initiatives and strategies, and solicits input from the college council and community members. These meetings are open to the public and accessible by Zoom or in person at all three KPC campuses on a rotating schedule. BEST COMMUNITY AGENCIES BET: Check out the MAPP Community Meeting for Agencies on Friday, March 21 from 9 a.m. to noon and see what has been done to address and organize around housing, child care and food, the top community health improvement priorities identified last year. BEST STUDENT FUNDRAISING BET: The Alaska Japanese Club will host a second Japanese Cuisine Fundraising Event on Saturday, March 22 at the Homer United Methodist Church. Get your tickets for amazing homemade Japanese cuisine, served in two seatings from noon to 1:30 p.m. or 2-3:30 p.m. Tickets are still available by calling 907-699-2567 or visiting Red Bird Kitchen. Funds raised from this event will support the student ambassadors’ trip to Homer’s sister city, Teshio, in Hokkaido, Japan in June. BEST GUIDING GROWTH BET: Guiding Growth will host a Homer City Code forum focusing on housing, open space and energy on Tuesday, March 25 at 5:30 p.m. at Kachemak Bay Campus. Join a gathering of community leaders to discuss robust and effective code changes to achieve community priorities around housing, open space and energy. There will be facilitated, group discussions on vetted, workable code changes and attendees will work together to sketch an overarching strategy to get big things done. A collaboration of Guiding Growth, MAPP and the Kachemak Bay Conservation Society, this event seeks to bring together representatives from as many local groups in the community as possible, including youth, industry, outdoor recreation, Homer City Council and City Commissions to engage with rewriting Homer City Code to better reflect our needs and values as a community.
