BEST LOVE YOUR LIBRARY BET: February is National Love Your Library month, and the Friends of the Homer Public Library are taking advantage of this special celebratory month to show some love to HPL patrons! During the month of February, patrons can fill out a little raffle ticket with their name and full mailing address and then drop it into the Love Your Library Valentine Box for a chance to win a $5 coffee card. Only one entry per week; four names are drawn weekly. Patrons are also invited to share their reasons why they love the Homer library on a paper heart, which will be included in a collage display at HPL. BEST LIFELONG LEARNING NOMINATIONS BET: The nomination period for the Friends of the Homer Public Library’s 2025 Lifelong Learners is almost over! Each year, FHL honors one adult community member and one youth who has shown endless commitment to acquiring an exceptional skill or knowledge. Nomination forms are available at HPL or online at the FHL website. Nominations must be received by Friday, Feb. 21. The FHL Lifelong Learning Celebration will take place on Saturday, March 29 at 6:30 p.m. 500 Hazel Ave.
BEST MUSIC FUNDRAISER BET: The 2025 Anchor Point Snow Rondi will host a spaghetti feed and youth music fundraiser, benefiting Homer OPUS, on Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 4:30-6 p.m. at Chapman School. Musical performances will also be held by Chapman K-2 students and the third grade violin club. Dinner will include spaghetti and meatballs, salad and bread. BEST TUESDAY NIGHT LIGHTS BET: The Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies hosts Tuesday Night Lights, Homer’s favorite free winter weeknight speaker series, weekly on Tuesdays from 6:30-8 p.m. On Feb. 25, Alaska Department of Fish and Game area managers Mike Booz and Holly Dickinson will answer your questions about the current status of chinook (king) salmon in Kachemak Bay. BEST HEALTH AND WELLNESS BET: Join South Peninsula Hospital for Wellness Wednesdays, a free evening of health education, food and yoga held weekly on Wednesdays at Kachemak Bay Campus from 5:30-7:30 p.m. On Feb. 26, Hospice of Homer’s Morgan Laffert presents, “Walking Each Other Home: A Conversation on Death,” a conversation on death with hospice staff and volunteers. Learn about the process of death and how our community supports the in-home end-of-life transition, and hear from hospice volunteers and their clients’ loved ones about their experiences. BEST COMP PLAN REVIEW BET: The public review draft of the 2035 Homer Comprehensive Plan Update is here! Project organizers want your feedback; the deadline to provide comments is March 14.
