For details on these events and more, take a look at these Best Bets.

BEST TOWN HALL BET: New South Peninsula Hospital services and campus improvements will be discussed at a town hall meeting on Thursday, Sept. 12 starting at 5:30 p.m. Doors will open at 5 p.m. Join representatives of Kenai Peninsula Borough and SPH for a conversation on the upcoming ballot proposition for general obligation bonds to add and expand services and support campus improvements at SPH. A brief informational presentation will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with KPB Mayor Peter Micciche, SPH CEO Ryan Smith, SPH Radiologist Dr. Edson Knapp, KPB Assembly Member Kelly Cooper, and SPH board member Beth Wythe. A light dinner will also be provided. Find more information at www.sphosp.org. 3838 Bartlett St.

BEST FISHING LINE CLEANUP BET: Join Kachemak Bay Birders for their seventh annual fish line cleanup at the Nick Dudiak Lagoon on the Homer Spit on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to noon. Bags will be provided, bring your own gloves. Participants are also invited to pick up trash, which will need to be put in a separate bag. Fishing line is recycled through the Center for Alaska Coastal Studies’ sponsored program, Reel In and Recycle. Birds die unnecessarily when they become entangled in fishing line, but it’s preventable and you can help! Many will attest to finding entangled birds on COASST beaches through the years. For example, this summer saw the unnecessary death of a crane colt in the slough because it had become entangled in fish line. All Kachemak Bay Birding trips and events are free and everyone is welcome to attend. For questions, contact Lani Raymond at 907-399-9477. 3735 Homer Spit Rd.

BEST VOTER REGISTRATION DAY BET: A voter registration drive will be held at Kachemak Bay Campus on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., hosted by KBC, the League of Women Voters of the Kenai and Kenai Peninsula Votes. Everyone is welcome to this free event; free food and voter information on upcoming elections, including the city/borough voting pamphlet for the Oct. 1 election, will be available. For questions, email kenaipeninsulavotes@gmail.com. 533 E. Pioneer Ave.

BEST SENIOR WELLNESS DAY BET: South Peninsula Hospital is sponsoring the first annual Senior Wellness Day, in honor of National Senior Month, on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from noon to 3 p.m. at Kachemak Bay Campus. This free event will kick off with a presentation from Homer Medical Center family practice provider Dr. Ragina Lancaster on how to use physical and mental exercise as a tool to prevent memory loss. From 1-2 p.m., participants can enjoy lunch, freebies, blood pressure checks and gather resources from local organizations. Starting at 2 p.m. Mary Edminster will lead a beginner-level fitness activity. The Division of Public Health will be sharing information about senior vaccination and Hospice of Homer will share information about their healthy aging program throughout this event.
