Artist teaches winter classes for new year
Artist Lynn Marie Naden offers three months of art classes for ages 16 and older in January, February and March of 2017. Classes are held 12:30-4 p.m. Saturdays at her studio off Bear Creek Drive. In January, she teaches collage and painting, in February, relief clay tiles and basic mold making, and in March, paper making and felting. The fee is $300 for all three months or $150 a month, space available. The cost of materials is not included, but will be no more than $50 a month. Storyknife offers residencies; donors name cabins
The Storyknife Writers Retreat for women writers has opened its application period for four residencies to be offered in 2017. Applications are due by Jan. 27. Women writers can apply for a two-week or four-week residency during the months of June, July, August and September.
The successful candidates will receive a $250 per week stipend at the end of their residency. This money can be used to cover the costs of travel, food and a rental car if the resident is from out of the drivable area. The resident will need to purchase and prepare their own meals, with the exception of a welcome dinner and a farewell dinner, at the beginning and end of her stay. Three donors also have given $50,000 each to build cabins at Storyknife, for which they receive the right to name the cabin. These donations fund half of an anticipated six cabins. Donating are Arliss Sturgulewski, who will be naming her cabin for her daughter-in-law, Carol; Jeannie Penney, who will be naming her cabin for her mother, Betty Rice, and Cathy Rasmuson, who will be naming her cabin for the late Halibut Cove artist Diana Tillion. Each cabin will have a photograph and biography of the woman whose name it bears.
“We are so proud to have the support of these amazing donors, exemplars of how large-hearted and visionary Alaskan women can be,” said Storyknife founder Dana Stabenow.
