Annual Pops concert features band, jazz band, choir, swing choir and student solos

On Monday, Homer High School students performed in the annual Pops concert featuring band, jazz band, choir, swing choir as well as student solos and duets at Homer’s Mariner Theater.

There are approximately 40 high school students in band and 55 in choir. The youth filled the first three rows of the auditorium and enthusiastically cheered their classmates’ performances (in addition to applauding general stage setup by Mr. Kyle Schneider).

Soloists and duets in the program selected their own music and participated in a competitive audition process. Some of them were accompanied by student musicians on the piano or guitar. Others sang with recorded background melody.

Soloist Bibo Loukil used a drum as his background rhythm. Other soloists included Warren Baxter, Sameah McGhee, Charles VanMeter, Clark Milstead, Mylan Johnson and Michaela Browning. Kurt Rowzee and Leilani Salison performed a duet.

There is a combined middle and high school band concert scheduled for March 2 and the High School musical “Newsies” will follow shortly after spring break from March 23-25.
